Le Chateau Boulton

After what feels like eons, we are finally getting new carpet in our bedrooms today and, because my home is pretty much a non-functional disaster zone, Cody and I spent the night at Katelyn and Matt's house. My husband, on the other hand, stayed home to deal with everything, sleeping on a mattress in the living room amidst boxes and bags and books and pool floaties. No worries. Don and I have been watching American Ninja Warrior, so I'm sure he practiced some cool moves making his way around. :)

Anyhow...I wanted to share what I found prepared for us when I walked into my daughter and son-in-law's guest room.

I'm sorry the photos are so blurry. I had to take them with my old Samsung phone from, oh...I don't know...approximately 2005? Had I known the kids were going to do something soooo adorable, I would have brought my camera!

Then, I walked into the guest bathroom and saw these things on the counter...

Just before going to bed, I spotted a giant Kit Kat on Cody's pillow...

...and a yummy variety of chocolates for me.

I also found a questionnaire on the night stand.

So, of course I had to fill it out.

I think Don and I are going to be okay in this great circle of life. We have some really terrific kids!

Kindergarten Cooking 101

Going through my recipe drawer this afternoon, I came across a "cookbook" that Katelyn's class made in Kindergarten twenty years ago. Although I can't share them all with you, I have picked out a few of my favorites. They are quite comical.

My favorite part? 5 cups of chocolate chips! Heck yeah!

I hope this kid's family takes turns mixing the fish sticks (without any fish) for 20 hours.

5 cups of white cheese on top of two pieces of spaghetti that have been cooked for 85 minutes. Yum!

Okay, I know this kid's dad and I'm pretty sure he doesn't even own a gun,
let alone set out to shoot his own turkey.

Now I know if I'm at the market and can't find the popcorn, all I have to do is head on over to the bakery department and ask the baker! By the way, is it just me or do you get the feeling that this family often burns their popcorn the first go-round?

So that's what my No-Bake cookies are missing. Sand!!

This last recipe came straight from the mouth of my daughter...

What can I say? Our family likes really sweet, undercooked, 0 inch that turn into 2 inch,
M&M Cookies without egg shells. Doesn't yours?

Camping Bites and I'm Not Talking Mosquitoes

This is the time of year when you hear about camps. There are scout camps, sports camps, cheerleading camps, weight loss camps, boot camps, etc. All of the buzz about summer camps makes me wonder. Have I ever mentioned how much I hate to camp? I don't think I have. Well, I hate to camp and here is why...

I went camping a lot when I was a kid. My family owned property on a nearby mountain and kept a travel trailer on it all summer long. I didn't mind camping when I was a child, but as I got older, I despised it.

I was twelve or thirteen years old when I attended girl's camp. It was my first experience camping in a tent and without my family. The camp leaders thought it would be a wonderful idea to split up friends so the girls could become better acquainted with each other. This was a HUGE mistake as far as I was concerned. I was immediately miserable without my best friend Jill.

While most of the girls had cute, young women for their camp leaders, my group ended up with an old lady that made us rub lotion all over our bodies before we climbed into our sleeping bags. She was convinced that our skin was going to get dry in the cool mountain air, but I am positive that it was completely the opposite. Seriously, what percentage of teenage girls have dry skin anyway? Most of us were worried about our greasy 'T Zones' and breaking out in zits.

Jill and I tried to be together as much as possible during the day, planning our classes/activities at the same time when we could. But when evening rolled around, I was stuck with a bunch of dud girls and Old Lady Jergens.

I think Jill may have went back to girls camp in the summers following that one, but I never did. That one experience traumatized me for life.

My idea of camping nowadays is to stay at a Hilton or Marriott, but even that is iffy with the bed bug epidemic and all. :)

You Get What You Get, So Don't Throw a Fit

Lately my spouse's attitude is, "I've worked hard my entire married life so I should be able to do what I want." I love my husband with all my heart and he HAS worked hard our entire married life, but so have I.

I found the following song on You Tube. It is about motherhood. On top of raising "normal" children, add taking care of a son with disabilities 24/7 and working part-time out of the home and you've described my life.

My intent is not to whine, humiliate or complain, just prove a point. I liken life to what I tell the Kindergarten kids when handing out treats, "You get what you get, so don't throw a fit."

Enjoy the video!

Oh Crap.

A Kindergarten boy pooped in a urinal today. Anybody care to explain the science of how this is even possible? He is five!

Enough said.
