Cody, his Overprotective Drama Queen Sister and the Duck Pond

My daughter came home from college this afternoon anxious to engage in the following conversation:

Katelyn- "I just saw Cody at the duck pond. He was standing all alone."

Me- "I am sure there were people watching him." (He was with his day program.)

Katelyn- "There was a group huddled over by the bench. NOWHERE NEAR CODY."

Short pause

Katelyn- "He's blind! Don't they know he could wander off into the sea?"

This is the point where I start laughing. In her exaggerated drama, the pond suddenly became the sea.

Katelyn- "What was he wearing?"

Me- "Jeans and a blue Aeropostale shirt with white lettering."

Katelyn-  "Well, for one thing, he should be in shorts. You shouldn't dress him in jeans yet. It's hot. He's probably sweating bullets with the sun beating on his head." (It might be 80 degrees, at the most.)

Me- still laughing

pause

Katelyn- "Nobody even offered him a seat."

Do you suppose she is a little protective of her older brother?

And the really funny part is, when Cody came home and I asked him about the duck pond, he said, "We didn't go to the duck pond. We went bowling."

Poor Katelyn. She worried herself sick over nothing. :)

11 Things You'll Never See Me Wear

I promised an 11 Things post on the 11th day of each month in 2011, so here goes...

11 Things You'll Never See Me Wear

#11- A Tube Top. They may be the fad, but when I see them, I think of white trash and episodes of 'Cops'.

#10- A Mini Skirt.

#9- Fish Net Stockings. Try not to even imagine this.

#8- A Nose Ring. Hello Nose! No thanks.

#7- Wrangler Jeans. Might as well be 'Mom Jeans' or 'Pajama Jeans'.

#6- Bows in My Hair. I don't think I even wore these as a child. Did I mom?

#5- A Thong Bikini (not even in my own pool). Let's just move along...

#4- A Leather "Biker" Jacket. If you ever see me in one of these, get help. I've gone off the deep end.

#3- Socks with Sandals. I saw this a lot in Eugene.

#2- A Turtle Neck Shirt or Sweater.

#1- Anything Red. Redheads shouldn't wear red. I won't even buy a red car because it would make my hair look bad.

Necktie Torture

My son Casey (age 21) got a job promotion and is now required to wear a necktie everyday. I love it because he looks so handsome, but there is a minor dilemma. Casey doesn't know how to tie a tie, so he's recruited his dad (Don) to be his personal, tie tying assistant.

Don hates tying ties. In fact, he's figured out a way to slip out of his neckties, so he never has to re-tie them. When Don receives a new tie for Father's Day, or Christmas, or any occasion, he gratefully accepts the gift, but then procrastinates tying it, so it goes unworn for months.

Casey bought three new neckties over the week-end and left them at our house for his dad to work his magic. When Don came home from work and saw them, he said to me, "You do know that if I have to tie three ties in one night, I'm gonna hang myself with the last one."

Casey may look like his dad, but he's inherited my love for Coca-Cola :)

(Before I get any snide comments about how Don should teach Casey to tie his own ties, I will tell you that he will. Life just needs to slow down enough for Don and Casey to be in the same place at the same time.)
