"97X. BAM. The Future of Rock and Roll."

The Price is Right airs at a new time. After all the years of coming on at 9:00 a.m., CBS has decided to move the game show to 11:00 and for the record, I am not one bit happy about the change.

If you have ever watched the movie Rain Man, you probably recall when Raymond and Charlie Babbitt were on the road and 5 o' clock began to approach. Charlie realized if he didn't find someone that would let his brother watch People's Court on their television, Raymond was going to throw a fit. After all, Ray followed a rigid schedule and had to watch certain programs at the same time every day, no matter what.

Cody is like that with The Price is Right and Survivor.

If you haven't seen Rain Man, I would recommend that you do so. It really is a good film and very educational for those who know little about autism.

I found the following clip on YouTube. I must forewarn that the F word is thrown around a couple of times, so view at your own discretion.

Manipulated into Playing a Game Show

Ma-nip-u-late- to control or influence somebody or something in an ingenious or devious way

Have you ever lived with anyone who will rarely finish a sentence? Cody does this and it makes me absolutely bonkers. I have always chalked it up to being another "autistic thing", but yesterday, as I sat down to watch television with Cody, I was enlightened.

Cody sat comfortably in his recliner while I flipped through the channels, reading the program options to him. He wanted to watch $100,000 Pyramid, so I left it on GSN and cozied up on the sofa with Katelyn's laptop. Not until I heard the players give clues to one another did I realized that Cody has been leaving off the end of his sentences in an attempt to imitate the game. From his voice inflection to the way he says "uh-huh' and "yes" when someone finishes the end of a sentence for him, Cody has been playing his rendition of "Pyramid". He is the giver and those willing to converse with him are the receivers.

The difference between Dick Clark's $100,000 Pyramid and Cody's game is...

#1- People on television are aware they are playing!

and

#2- They have a chance to win $100,000! Cody's team players, on the other hand, are SOL.

Rectangles and Relationships

I have always thought of myself as a "mama bear" type of mother, but today, Cody proved me otherwise.

On Saturdays, I allow Cody to watch GSN while I'm cleaning the house and whatnot. He loves all of the game shows...Deal or No Deal, Match Game, Password, Family Feud, Lingo, Catch 21, etc. Today was no exception. Cody sat comfortably in the recliner with the television on, while I baked some cookies and cleaned the kitchen.

After I finished and turned on the dishwasher, I sat down on the sofa with Katelyn's laptop, hoping to catch up on my favorite blogs. As my mind slowed down enough to tune into the television, I looked up to see some kind of dating program on the screen. I picked up the remote and said to Cody, "What's this? We don't want to watch this. Let's find something else." I then turned the channel to 'Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives' on the Food Network and tried to settle into reading a few posts. That's when Cody interrupted me and said, "It's called Rectangles and Relationships and Iiii like it." Sure you do, I thought to myself (insert eye roll here) as I went back to GSN to see what the heck the game show is really called. (In case you don't already know, instead of being direct, Cody converses in clues.)

I learned two things.

#1 The game is called 'Love Triangles', not Rectangles and Relationships.

#2 Cody wouldn't have responded the way he did, if he hadn't watched the show a few times!

This undoubtedly explains why Cody has been obsessed with using the word "sex" lately, which brings me back to my original point.

I think my protective mother skills have gone to shit.

Cody's Shout Out for The Price is Right

Cody came home this afternoon and informed me that his Day Program won't be going to the track on Thursday. When I asked him "Why?", he replied, "Because we're having a Price is Right party for Danette instead."

Normally, Cody would be a little upset about a change in routine, but he loves to watch The Price is Right. He often tells me, "I wish I could afford to get on." Call me mean, but that's not ever going to happen unless someone else wants to volunteer to take him. His excitement over the noise and commotion would cause such rapid arm flapping that he'd probably beat the crap out of anyone sitting near him.

Imagine, for a second, that Cody actually did go to the studio and the announcer called him to "come on down". Cody has no concept of money. To prove my point, I asked Cody what he thought Danette would bid on the following items. Here are his answers:

Me- How much do you think Danette would bid on a new car?
Cody- forteen ninety-five

Me- What about a new refrigerator?
Cody- two fifty

Me- What would she bid on a new boat?
Cody- one dollar

Me- How about a new bedroom set?
Cody-nineteen dollars and ninety-five cents

Me- Let's see...What else do they bid on at The Price is Right?
Cody- a dinette set

Me- Okay. What would Danette bid on a dinette set?
Cody- one dollar

Me- How about a trip to Europe in the showcase showdown?
Cody- six fifty

Let's face it. Cody would have to have luck on his side to make it very far with some of those bids (unless everyone else overbid each time, then...maybe?).

I hope if you find yourself watching The Price is Right this coming Thursday and see Danette, you'll remember that she is a friend of Cody's and he is giving up track to party in her behalf.

Good Luck, Danette!

Question- This is a Place Where Cody Hums to Relieve Stress. Answer- What is the Dentist Office?

Cody went to the dentist for his six month check up and cleaning today. It's not his favorite thing to do, but really, who actually enjoys it? Thank goodness we have a dentist with the patience of a saint. And his hygienist is just as patient, probably more so since she spends the most amount of time in Cody's mouth.

When Cody was younger, around six years old, he had to be put to sleep for dental work that required numbing and it took two of us just to hold him down while the dentist, Dr. Lax, merely looked in his mouth. (This was discovered when I was holding Cody's arms and he figured out he could use his legs to kick Dr. Lax in the head!)

After we moved and became patients of Dr. Denos, Cody found a way to cope with his much dreaded check-ups; he hums the Jeopardy theme music the ENTIRE time someone is poking around in his mouth. Whatever it takes, right?

This is what Cody says DENTIST stands for...

D-Denos
E-everybody
N-no singing Jeopardy loud
T- teeth
I- inside
S- surprise
T-toothpaste
