Sock Monkey Quilt

I received a phone call early this afternoon from Nikki at Cody's day program. She's the cute girl who keeps me posted via notes in Cody's backpack (see this post and this post ). When Nikki identified herself, I was a little nervous. I thought maybe Cody was sick or in trouble, but she was calling to tell me about some really cute quilts that had been donated and she wondered if she could send one home with Cody.

In my mind, I was visualizing a lap or crib size quilt that had been tied. I was pleasantly surprised when Cody came home with this...

I couldn't get a picture of the entire quilt and
I was even standing on a chair. It's that large.

Here is a close up of a few of the squares.

The entire thing is machine quilted.

The backing fabric is textured...an added bonus for Cody because he is blind.

It even came with a pillow case...

This is the sticker that was in the upper left hand corner of the quilt.

Thank you Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for your thoughtful donation. Cody loves his quilt!

Some Days are Just Better than Others

Remember last week when I posted a note from Cody's Day Program telling my husband and me what a joy Cody is to have around (click here)? Well, this is the note he came home with today...

Cody, his Overprotective Drama Queen Sister and the Duck Pond

My daughter came home from college this afternoon anxious to engage in the following conversation:

Katelyn- "I just saw Cody at the duck pond. He was standing all alone."

Me- "I am sure there were people watching him." (He was with his day program.)

Katelyn- "There was a group huddled over by the bench. NOWHERE NEAR CODY."

Short pause

Katelyn- "He's blind! Don't they know he could wander off into the sea?"

This is the point where I start laughing. In her exaggerated drama, the pond suddenly became the sea.

Katelyn- "What was he wearing?"

Me- "Jeans and a blue Aeropostale shirt with white lettering."

Katelyn-  "Well, for one thing, he should be in shorts. You shouldn't dress him in jeans yet. It's hot. He's probably sweating bullets with the sun beating on his head." (It might be 80 degrees, at the most.)

Me- still laughing

pause

Katelyn- "Nobody even offered him a seat."

Do you suppose she is a little protective of her older brother?

And the really funny part is, when Cody came home and I asked him about the duck pond, he said, "We didn't go to the duck pond. We went bowling."

Poor Katelyn. She worried herself sick over nothing. :)

BINGO Should be Fun, Right?

Tuesday is BINGO day at Cody's Day Program. It has been for years and for years, Cody has played with the same BINGO card.

Yesterday, while meeting with the program's coordinator concerning Cody's behavior, we realized that he is getting upset on Tuesdays because they switched his BINGO card. A very well meaning employee worked hard at making new cards in braille so Cody won't always have to play with the same one. The problem is, and I'll bet those of you with ASD children have already guessed, Cody has been playing with that same card for a long time. He is use to it. He wants to play with it and he wants it back.

Because I'm worried about the employees finding Cody's original card and think somebody may need to make him a new one, I asked Cody to give me the numbers. This is what he said:

B- 13, 3, 11, 10, 6

I- 25, 22, 19, 29, 16

N- 34, 37, free, 39, 42

G- 56, 50, 46, 58, 51

O- 61, 72, 65, 69, 71

Let's hope, for the sake of everyone's sanity, Cody's BINGO card is found before Tuesday rolls around again.
