Thanks to Chase's girlfriend's little boy, who happens to be obsessed with Elmo, I am getting reacquainted with Sesame Street.
When Chase and Cody were little, I loved watching Sesame Street with them. Not only was it educational, but Sesame Street had humor only grown ups could truly appreciate. I loved 'The Beetles' Muppets with their hit song 'Letter B' and Baba Wawa was another character that would crack me up as she impersonated Barbara Walters.
Maybe I'm easily amused, but I had Sesame Street on the Netflix Instant Queue today and watched, for the first time, this comical little skit...
Oh, come on! You've got to admit, that's funny shiz right there.

Autism: Cody's Fixation on Chuck and Larry
Cody, my thirty year old who enjoys watching Sesame Street Old School and Saturday morning cartoons on Qubo, loves the movie I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry. For those of you who may not be familiar with this film, it is about best friends, Chuck and Larry (Adam Sandler and Kevin James), who are fire fighters in Brooklyn. The jist of it is, Chuck owes Larry (a widower) for saving his life and Larry ends up cashing in on Chuck's favor by asking Chuck to pose as his gay partner so Larry's kids will get his pension.
I don't recall the first time Cody watched "Chuck and Larry", as he calls it. We must have rented it initially, but Casey ended up giving the movie to Cody a couple of Christmases ago. Cody will sit through the entire movie just so he can hear the music they play at the end during the credits. When I ask Cody what he likes about Chuck and Larry, he says "Pretty in Pink and Vanilla Ice's virgin of it." I'm guessing he means version, not virgin.
The other day Katelyn, trying to keep Cody entertained, asked him if he'd like to watch a movie. Of course he wanted to watch Chuck and Larry. Katelyn tried her hardest to persuade Cody to watch anything else. She read off every single DVD in the house, even putting a special emphasis on Jungle Book because she wanted to watch that one, but there was no talking Cody out of it.
I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry is one of Adam Sandler's less raunchy movies. Regardless, it is full of sexual innuendo and Cody's siblings think it's freakin' hilarious that their blind, autistic brother, who has no idea what the movie is all about, finds it so entertaining.

Glee...Sesame Street Style
I have only watched Glee a couple of times but enough to see the humor in this clip. Sesame Street writers and puppeteers are a hoot. :)
My favorite part is when the gay puppet says "Gorgeous!"

Life Is Random, So Am I
...should be Cody's motto. He has such odd, yet concrete moments of recollection.
Cody and I were watching old Sesame Street programs on Netflix and when the following segment came on, this is what he said... "When we were watching this in Eugene, your nose was itching...member?
Then he asked me, "How come your memory is not as good as mine?" when I told him I didn't remember.
We lived in Oregon over sixteen years ago and Cody knows where I was and what I was doing when this particular episode came on television.
That, my friends, is autism at its finest. :)

Old School
Sesame Street Old School is one of the things Cody got for Christmas this year. The volume above has three discs and is from years 1974-1979. Watching these episodes with Cody brings a feeling of nostalgia to me. I use to watch Sesame Street with my younger brothers in the 1970's, back when televisions had about five channels and remotes were unheard of.
I love that Sesame Street characters and scripts are humorous for adults, yet still fun and educational for children. Remember when Snuffleupagus was invisible? And how about Baba Wawa and Guy Smiley. I'd love to see Guy host Dancing with the Stars or Hollywood Squares instead of Tom Bergeron; his head is just as big and I'm sure he'd be more entertaining. And then there was John John. He was adorable!
Check out the trailer for Sesame Street Old School. If you think you may be interested in buying one or all of the DVD volumes, you can find them at Amazon or eBay.
