OCD or Weird Quirks?

I prefer to eat salad on a plate rather than a bowl (because it reminds me of 'Red Lobster'). And when I drink, I like to have cubed ice for Iced Tea and crushed ice for my diet coke. I don't believe this is OCD as much as just preferred tastes. However, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder does run in families. My mother has OCD; though not at all as dramatic as the people on the television program. I think it's safe to say that most of her disorder is about cleanliness. We had the cleanest house in town while I was growing up and when we went camping, we definitely had the cleanest camp trailer!

I know this can be a very serious problem for some people/families. I don't want to make light of it but it would be fun if you could comment and share some Obsessive Compulsive behaviors or "quirks" that may plague you :)

I have never officially been diagnosed as having ocd but I have had a psychologist tell me she was pretty sure I had it. Some of my quirks :) are that I have to park in the same place at the store every time go, I eat M&Ms by color that I like the most, I specific spots for things in my fridge and I can almost sense if someone put something away wrong, make tons of notes everyday, and pretty much have an exact way and order to every task I do :) and those are just some. The thing that makes me think I do have it is that it isn't that I just like things done that way I get upset and feel out of control if they aren't done that way.

Thanks for sharing Megan. I am pretty sure that you have OCD too. The M&M thing and your note taking crack me up, but at times it probably doesn't seem funny to you;)

Thanks, mom, for not getting upset with me. I wouldn't change anything about you. You've been an awesome mom!

I haven't been officially diagnosed either, although I can see from a family member who was diagnosed with "some components of OCD" that I have some too. My biggest thing is I like to play by the rules, or "by the book." I'm not completely rigid with it though, but I was known at work as a "by the book" person. Since I was in a profession where not following rules (or guidelines/procedures) could get you dead, this was probably an advantage. My weird quirk is I hate those sticky price labels on books. If I buy a book I take the tag off as soon as I am in the car.

Thanks for sharing Leslie. I love learning about others quirks. I think we all have them! I will never look at a sticker on a book the same again ;)

Would it be considered OCD that I thought about how I was going to post this comment for hours before actually posting it? How about having to read every word, sentence, and side note in a textbook? I cannot "skim" a chapter. It will bother me until I go back and read every page. Before going to bed, I will check several times that the doors are locked even though I saw my dad lock them earlier. I cannot eat or drink anything without using a napkin after every bite or sip. I fold the napkin in half after every wipe, therefore a single napkin gets used four times before grabbing another, and people wonder why after I'm finished with a meal my empty plate is topped with perfectly folded napkins! Help in the kitchen is nice, but I'd rather do it myself. Friends and family know that when I'm doing the dishes, that's just it- I'M doing the dishes. Do not put a dirty plate in the clean water I have prepared, and by dirty I mean not rinsed off to the point it looks like it doesn't even need to be cleaned. And as a finale, I asked my mom to proofread this post, because anything that's written needs to be perfect even if it's not getting an English grade.

okay so here are mine and sorry it has taken me so long :0) all my light switches have to go the same direction or I can't sleep and my pillows on my couch have to be straight and the when I vacuum the lines in my carpet have to be straight and I will walk on my furniture so I don't mess them up and all my blinds have to go the same direction and lets see oh hell I am messed up ;) oh at work when I assist all my instruments have to be lined up and my boss thinks it is so funny to mess it up.

Katelyn. I'm sorry this is in your blood.

Michelle...You walk on your furniture to not mess up the perfectly straight vacuum lines?! That's funny, in a sad sort of way.

Would it be considered OCD if I make towers out of perfectly folded napkin triangles while my girlfriend is in the bathroom after a good meal? Or that I misspell perfectly good words sometimes to see if my girlfriend is in a good enough mood to correct me? Maybe even holding my plate until I get the opportunity to put my plate into the dishwasher before she sees it? (I hope I've made this funny enough for someone to find it as comedy as I sit here making sure this can't be taken offensively)

My Matt has never been officially diagnosed with OCD however, as his mother, I can see many OCD tendencies with him.. For one, he is a hoarder.. His fetish is batteries and has been since he was old enough to figure out where he could find them. To this day (and he is 21 in March)
there isn't a remote control cover in our house. We have to use tape because he removes the backs and takes the batteries out and stashes them? Finding them is the trick, but when you do there is sure to be plenty.
